I am thrilled to be presenting the various methods I use to capture images of wild hummingbirds in flight at the Canon Experience Center. Scenarios include ambient lighting as well as simple to exotic flash lighting. We will discuss how great results can be achieved with a modicum of gear, and then what is required to produce exquisite results. Focus will be on technique rather than technology, however, I will stress the phenomenal AF abilities of the Pro EOS line of Canon cameras, particularly the 1Dx Mk II and the 5DsR – both of which I use regularly. I will also allude to the relatively new arena of ‘camera trapping’ for bird photography – including a look at some game-changing technology that is available commercially.
