The three main ways I used to photograph hummingbirds are represented in this portfolio - against white, black and in nature. I used specialized high speed flash equipment for all of the birds in flight, and a load of patience to get shots of them interacting. These were all before the days of autofocus. I have long since stopped shooting hummers - the AF technology in cameras makes it far too easy to be challenging any more.
